NADEESHA GIVEN NOMINATION AS SHIRAL, MAITHRI ARE LEFT OUT

Former Western Provincial Councilor Shiral Lakthilaka and former Southern Provincial Councilor Maithri Gunaratne have not been given nomination from the United National Party (UNP) to contest the forthcoming election, UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake said.

They had both contested the previous Provincial Council poll under the UNP and were elected to their respective councils, but on numerous occasions had clashed with the party’s leadership demanding the ousting of Leader Ranil Wickramasinghe.

However, Attanayake stated that the party has decided to give nomination to popular tele-actress Nadeesha Hemamali, who had sought to contest for the Southern Provincial Council under the UNP ticket.

The entire process of signing nominations for the upcoming Provincial Council polls has already been completed, the UNP General Secretary told Ada Derana.
