66TH INDEPENDENCE DAY...

The 66th Independence Day celebrations were held at Independence Avenue in Kegalle today (Feb. 04) under the patronage of President Mahinda Rajapaksa. A two minute silence was observed to remember all Sri Lankans who laid down their lives on behalf of the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of the nation. Thereafter, a guard of honour and a 21 gun salute for the President took place. A parade of the three armed forces, police and the Civil Defence Force as well as a cultural display concluded the celebrations
